American Democracy Project

We’re not cheerleaders or doomers—just people who understand what functional democracy is supposed to look like, and we’re exasperated watching it fail.

Every institution has a standard.

  • Congress has oversight.
  • Presidents have restraint.
  • Courts have independence.

And when the people stewarding those institutions abandon them—whether through incompetence, cowardice, or malice—someone has to say it plainly.

We do.

You’ll find no bullshitting here about either side:

  • We defend democracy while refusing to pretend Democrats aren’t maddening at governance.
  • We acknowledge Republicans are actively dismantling constitutional norms while noting that our own side can’t seem to execute basic politics.

Read the pieces below. They’re specific stories about institutional failure—not talking points, not hand-wringing, just what happened, why it matters, and what it costs us.
